Plagiarism
For some weird reason, the blogs of my sister and her friends have always been the target of copycats. It could be due to the fact their posts aren’t always about hooking up and breaking up. It could also be due to the fact their posts are often accompanied by photos that are well edited, or graphics that are well-thought of. Heck, for all I know, it’s because they blog in good English.
The imposter strikes again when my sister found out her blog header had appeared on the stranger’s Blogspot:

Here’s where it originally appeared:

What really bothered her wasn’t the header, but entire posts that’s been copy-pasted and posted as if they weren’t hers. Her friends are angry about all this, but I guess you can’t really blame the copycat since the awareness of intellectual property rights is next to non-existent amongst youngsters. In fact, there’re a lot of people who see the Internet as an ocean of free resources, where they could go on with their tugboats and scrape the ocean floor clean.
I’m doing my tiny part by posting a link to the Wikipedia article on Creative Commons licenses, in hopes that those who read this would want to read the articles, and help spread awareness amongst the tech-savvy youth of Malaysia.
So yes, this has been a public service announcement (of sorts) on my behalf. Happy surfing! :D
p.s. no, this isn’t the first time i’ve used watermarks. it’s just that the old ones are kinda plain.
p.s.s. yes, i know there’s no point putting it where people could easily crop it off.
